The French love their strikes. I just wish they wouldn't take place during Fall break. We had plans to leave Nice Saturday morning for Italy, but we found out there was going to be a strike. So we decided it would be best to just get to Italy ASAP so we didn't get stuck in France and miss all our other trains.
We left Friday afternoon and had to stay in Ventimiglia which is the first city in Italy after the French boarder. It's not really the kind of place you stay on vacation but it turned out to be a really pleasant town. I even found a Halloween cookie! Now I just need to find a real pumpkin.
Saturday was a long train day. I have a French presentation the day I go back to school so I just worked on that most of the time. And ma mere bought first class tickets, so we were riding in style! Free snacks and drinks.
Our hotel in Sorrento was pretty fancy. The best part about it though, besides our seaside room with a view of Mt. Vesuveus, was breakfast. Now, I'm not talking about dinky little European breakfasts with a croissant and coffee. I'm talking about a good old fashion American breakfast with waffels, eggs, cereal, muffins, everything! I mixed both cultures together and had a waffel with nutella! Yummy!
The stairway leading up to the breakfast room had this really colorful mural that we had fun taking pictures with!
