Today I had my first class of French Culture and Civilization. Here's pretty much what I learned in class today:
1. French people do not smile in public
2. French people don't know what personal space is
3. Time does not equal $ for the French
4. The French are always right
5. There is no such thing as customer service, only customer deservice
6. Never ask for a "doggy bag" because they will think you are crazy
7. The French do not pick up after their dogs and it is causing the country to spend thousands each year because of sanitation and also in S.S. Apparently the old people slip on the poop and break a leg or hip. (She said this in class, I'm not making this up)
I'm sure this class will be very interesting. France, as you have probably guessed, is very different from the US.
Later today I went on some errands around town with a friend. We tried not to smile, but just the fact the our teacher told us not to made it even harder. We just kept laughing and smiling. We couldn't help it.
We stopped at the train station to get schedules. While there we got these green drinks. I guess they are some regional drink, like an Italian soda. It was sparkling water with mint syrup.
I did not like it very much... At least I'm trying knew things though, right?
Look at this store I found in Old Nice...
I didn't go in, but how perfect is that for me!?
I finally went into the little dog boutique that is right next to my building. They had such cute stuff. I just had to buy something for Rosie Posey!
For dinner, I tried another Nicoise special. Socca. This actually was good. It is made out of chickpea flour. The texture felt similar to eggs. It's really hard to explain how it tasted though. You will just have to try it for yourself.
In a little bit I am going to meet up with some friends for a beer since it's Friday. Two weeks of school down. Hopefully it will be an early night, because you know me, I like to sleep, and I don't want to sleep away the whole day tomorrow!
Cheers!
